Recycling is fab, until the batch is contaminated

Updated: Dec 11, 2019

Our coral reefs are dying and for what?? For you to enjoy one cup of coffee that you won’t recycle?

1 in 4 items in a recycling bin cause contamination. That may not sound like a lot but in the grand scheme of things when 7.8 million cups end up in landfills you kind of have to reconsidered. If you didn’t know, contamination is caused by items that can’t be recycled like straws, coffee cup lids, and greasy food packaging. Don’t worry, I only learn the other week from one of my class mates that you can’t recycle paper packaging if its covered in grease. That was after I put it in the recycling bin...

EDUCATE YOURSELF!

Every county in the country has different rules on recycling! When I was younger, I though any plastic can be recycled when really that’s a lie.

YOU CAN BE LAZY AND SUSTAINABLE

Cool, I get you can’t be bothered to separate your coffee cup but when bins are provide with each slot next to each other how could you say no?

REUSABLE ITEMS

Using reusable items will actually save you money in the long run. Taking your own water bottle to uni means you can refill it for free instead of having to buy a single use bottle. I understand that you can reuse these bottle for a short period of time, but we are talking about being eco friendly people!!

In case you’re interested, here’s a lil video on how you can be more eco-friendly in your day to day life!

At the end of the day, we have to remember our actions have a domino effect. It may not affect us now, but would you want your kids living in a world that is about to go up into flames?
